Messiah 82, Lebanon Valley 73
ANNVILLE, Pa. - A late push by first-place Messiah gave them an 82-73 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
The Dutchmen headed into the day a game out of the fifth and final Commonwealth Conference playoff spot, but didn't lose ground as Albright lost at Stevenson. LVC will need Albright to lose one of their final two games, while winning in that same span at Arcadia or home to Stevenson next Saturday.
Kevin Agnew led LVC with 21 points and eight assists, while
Mike Fasano drained 15 - all on three-pointers - and
Kyler Burke chipped in 12. Both teams bombed the lights out for three, combining for 22 trifectas, including a 12-for-22 day for LVC.
Zac Hoy's 22 points led four Falcons in double figures, including Brad Bolen (17), Taylor Groff (14), and David Fernandez (13).
LVC led by as much as six in the second after erasing Messiah's early advantage, but couldn't hold on after the Falcons capitalized on a 17-7 run midway through the second to take control of the momentum and the game.
A three-pointer by Hoy at the 9:56 mark started the rally, and after a Fasano three stopped the run at 3:17 to cut the lead to five, free throws by Christyan DeVan and Brad Bolen extended the lead as Messiah held LVC without a field goal until the final seconds.
The Dutchmen shot 53.1 percent for the game after a red-hot 15-for-23 first half, but Messiah's 20-for-26 day at the foul line made the difference as LVC had just 12 chances, cashing in on nine. The Falcons also won the battle on the boards, 31-25, including a 13-6 offensive rebounding advantage.
LVC will visit Arcadia on Tuesday night.
