ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley ended the regular season with a bang, setting four new program records on Senior Day against Hood.
Alicia Hain (800m free and 200m back),
Jan Ikeda (100m free), and
Clay Heebner (100m fly) all set new standards as LVC laid down final qualifying times for MAC Championships, set to begin Feb. 13 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York. Hood won both sides of the meet, 174-87 for the men and 157-99 for the women.
During the meet, LVC honored its senior class -
Eliott Bonds,
Noelle Brossman, Joe Chubb,
Matt Dwyer, Hain,
Austen Hellerick,
Krysteena Koller,
Julia Mongeau, and
Carli Weldon - as they swam for the final time at the Arnold Sports Center.
Hain reset her 800m free record for the third time this year, winning easily in 10:02.79 to slash nearly eight seconds off her previous career best set back on Jan. 18. She followed that up with a new 200m backstroke mark, winning in exhibition in 2:34.92 to take nearly three seconds off her own record set in the fall.
Ikeda also reset her own record, swimming 1:01.93 in the 100m free for second place in a close finish. That took more than a half-second off her 1:02.53 time from 2011-12.
Heebner had threatened the 100m fly mark all season long, and finally cracked it with a 1:02.27 win. It broke the 2006 record of 1:02.53 set by Isaac Greene '06.
Heebner and
Bobby Burkhart both came close to another pair of records as they won the 200m fly and 100m breaststroke, respectively. Heebner won in 2:22.97, while Burkhart's time of 1:12.88 was close to resetting his own record in the event.
Adam Brock was second in the 200m free, and
Bryce Betz runner-up in the 100m back.
Dan Weinel swam 25.80 for second in the 50m free, and
Matt Dwyer was second in the 200m backstroke.
The women's 200m medley relay started the meet with a win thanks to
Alayna Kalinay, Brossman, Ikeda, and
Lauren Decker's 2:13.40 time. Decker later won the 50m free in 29.56,
Kyra Valent was second in the 200m free, and
Sarah Foery had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
