Lebanon Valley 62, Elizabethtown 56
ANNVILLE, Pa. - A big second-half move by Lebanon Valley helped them overcome a slow start and beat Elizabethtown, 62-56, on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (7-12, 5-7 CC) avenged a loss at Elizabethtown earlier this month that saw the Blue Jays (7-12, 4-8 CC) come back to win at the last second. Depending on results around the Commonwealth Conference later tonight, LVC could be just a game out of a playoff spot behind Albright.
It was the 123rd meeting between the local rivals but the last as CC foes. Elizabethtown will move to the Landmark Conference next season.
Kevin Agnew had a game-high 18 points and
Zach Mrozek was a second-half sparkplug with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Kyler Burke added nine points and five boards, including a key three-point play with 6:08 remaining that put LVC ahead four and firmly in control of the game's momentum.
Tyler Simpkiss, Joe Schwalm, and Lee Eckert each scored 13 for the Jays as Eckert recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, as well.
LVC was ice-cold to start the game as the Jays ran out to a an early 16-5 lead. The Dutchmen chipped away slowly to try and stay in it, and Burke's buzzer-beating jumper make it 31-24 E-town to end the first half.
Still trailing 43-36 midway through the second half, LVC embarked on an 8-0 run to tie the game keyed by back-to-back three-pointers from Agnew and
Travis Conrad. Another Agnew three-pointer gave LVC its first lead at the 9:07 mark, and a 9-2 run took full control of the game as Mrozek hit a floater and Burke's three-point play made it 51-47.
The Dutchmen never let Elizabethtown back in the game after that, as Mrozek,
Joey Giangiobbe, and Agnew all made free throws down the stretch, and Agnew hit a key three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining, to seal the win.
LVC will head to Hood on Wednesday.
