ANNVILLE, Pa. - Two new records and promising performances across the board highlighted LVC's dual-meet opener against Albright on Tuesday night.
Albright won both ends of the meet, 100-97 for the men and 106-87 for the women, but new records in the men's 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter medley relay set the tone in the home opener.
The highlight of the night was a terrific men's 100-meter fly race, where freshman
Ian Lloyd and Clay Heeber both went under record pace to go 1-2 in the event. Lloyd touched in 1:00.77, breaking Heebner's school record of 1:02.27, which he also bested at 1:01.63. The men's 200 medley relay started the meet off by smashing the program record by more than three seconds as
Ian Lloyd,
Bobby Burkhart,
Clay Heebner, and
Chris Kurtz touched in 1:54.43 to best the mark of 1:57.79 set last season.
Kurtz also added a second-place 2:21.22 200-IM time, and
David Corvino was second in the 100-meter free in 59.94 seconds. Lloyd swam 1:06.24 in the 100-meter backstroke for second, and
Garrett Collins (400-meter free, 4:50.65) and Burkhart (100-meter breaststroke, 1:13.58) took full points with Albright in exhibition.
For the women,
Kyra Valent led the way with a second-place 1:06.78 in the 100-meter free, and
Alayna Kalinay was second in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:15.55.
Marie Gorman took the full points with Albright in exhibition in the 400-meter free (5:30.03) as did
Lauren Skorupski in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.95).
The women's relays had a strong night, with the 200-meter medley relay (Kalinay, Skorupski,
Leslie Hiller,
Gio Ortiz) coming second in 2:15.76, and the 200-meter free group of
Kendall Mehaffey,
Katie Frace,
Sabrina Fellenbaum, and
Danielle Burns finishing in 2:19.80 to take the full points with Albright in exhibition.
LVC will return to the pool Friday night to host Arcadia in their annual Pink Meet, starting at 6 p.m.
