Lebanon Valley 83, Widener 74
ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Mike Fasano's career game and some tough early defense helped Lebanon Valley get past Widener, 83-74.
The Dutchmen (6-12, 4-7 CC) held the Pride (8-10, 2-9 CC), one of the nation's top scoring offenses at 87.9 points per game, to 74 points as they led for virtually the entire game.
Fasano drained a career-high 22 points to lead four Dutchmen in double digits along with
Kevin Agnew (21),
Joey Giangiobbe (15), and
Kyler Burke (13).
Agnew shot 16-for-18 at the line, leading a 27-for-34 night for LVC overall as they continued to be one of the country's top free-throw shooting teams. The Dutchmen shot 45.2 percent overall for the game.
Rob McPherson had a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead Widener along with Laron Byrd's 18 points.
The Dutchmen took control of the game early, using a 10-2 run midway through the first half to go up 28-17 before Widener cut back the lead to trail 37-31 at the half. The Pride hung around to start the second before the Dutchmen hit on a 9-0 run that included six straight free throws by Agnew and a Fasano three-pointer to blow the lead up to 59-44, their largest of the game.
Widener made it interesting with a 9-0 run late in the second, capped by Radomicki's steal and fastbreak to cut LVC's lead to 67-61 at the 5:28 mark. Buckets by Fasano and
Zach Mrozek stopped the damage, but Widener stayed tough into the final minute with a pair of three-pointers to draw the Pride within four at 79-74. Byrd's final three-pointer would be Widener's last points, however, as LVC broke the press out of a timeout to find Burke wide-open, and Mrozek sealed it with free throws with 19 seconds left.
LVC will host Elizabethtown on Saturday in the final Commonwealth Conference match-up between the rivals.
