ANNVILLE, Pa. - A new record for the men's 200-meter medley relay set the tone as Lebanon Valley swam against Messiah on Saturday.
Messiah took both sides of the meet, with a 164-93 men's score and 178-82 women's. LVC's men are now 5-5 this season, while the women are 3-7.
The men's medley relay of
Adam Brock,
Bobby Burkhart,
Clay Heebner, and Tim Carroll was second in 1:57.79, taking 0.22 seconds off the standard set earlier this season that Burkhart and Heebner were both a part of. Heebner came close to another record, nearly snapping the eight-year old 100-fly mark with a career-best 1:02.75 win. His time was less than a quarter-second off Isaac Greene '06's record.
Burkhart won the 200-breaststroke in 2:43.63, one of the top times in program history, and also came in second over 100 meters in the breaststroke.
Garrett Collins was second in the 800-free, and
Blade Umstead took second in the 100-back with Brock also placing second in the 200-free and the 200-back while.
David Corvino was the 100-free runner-up.
The women's meet was highlighted by wins for
Jan Ikeda in the 200-free and the 200-free relay. Ikeda swam 2:17.84 in the 200-free to win by a second and a half, then led off the relay with
Lauren Decker,
Noelle Brossman, and
Kyra Valent behind her for a 1:58.82 win. Ikeda was also second in the 400-free in 4:55.23.
A week after breaking her 800-free record, Hain nearly did it again as she placed second in 10:11.98, just over a second from her standard. The reigning MAC Swimmer of the Week added a second-place 2:41.95 in the 200 IM.
LVC will host Hood for senior day next Saturday.
