Lebanon Valley 62, Lycoming 55
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The sixth annual Pink Game brought as much excitement as advertised with the #19 Dutchmen beating Commonwealth Conference rivals Lycoming by a 62-55 final Wednesday night.
Caitlin Bach turned out another spectacular game with 17 points and 14 rebounds for her third straight double-double. Her 11 defensive boards helped steer the Dutchmen (19-3, 13-2 CC) away from the troubles brought on by a pesky Lycoming team that took 64 shots on the night.
Tierney Hiltz finished with 14 points and eight boards, and
Renee Fritz added 11 and four.
Lycoming (6-15, 6-9) jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the first five minutes of play before allowing back-to-back scores by Hiltz and Bach. The Dutchmen slowly gained control over the remainder of the first half and headed to the break with a 30-22 lead.
The Dutchmen led by as many as 13 points in the second half, but the threat of a Warriors comeback hung on their willingness to shoot from outside the arc. Lycoming took 14 three-point chances, with Shanley Harlacker hitting two. A layup by Julia Antonelli and a quick steal and layup by Janelle Ziminski put the Warriors within five with 17 seconds to play, but Bach sank pair of free throws to silence the threat.
This year's game was surrounded by all of the usual fundraising activity that fans have come to expect of the Pink Game. The team raised money through a jersey auction, a bake sale, T-shirt sales, and fan donations at the gate. Money raised will go toward cancer research and treatment in Central Pennsylvania. The game drew 1,515 people.
Prior to tip-off, team captains Fritz and
Kiely Chaklos and head coach Todd Goclowski presented checks to the American Cancer Society and the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute.
The Dutchmen play at Messiah Saturday at 5 p.m.
