Stevenson 93, Lebanon Valley 75
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Lebanon Valley closed its season with a 93-75 setback at Stevenson on Saturday despite one last big game by senior
Danny Brooks, who poured in 28 points.
An inspired Mustangs team, needing a win and help to back their way into the playoffs, pulled away with a huge second-half run while the other results around the Commonwealth Conference fell their way. The Dutchmen end the season 9-16 overall, 6-12 in league play.
Brooks scored 28 to go with eight rebounds, ending his career among LVC's elite with 1,355 points (11th all-time) and 624 rebounds (eighth). He was one of five seniors to play his final game for the Valley, along with
Matt O'Brien (7 pts, 6 rbs), Sam Diaz (2 pts),
David Corbin (2 pts), and
Garrett Kelly (2 rbs).
Brett Burrier scored 21 for the Mustangs, and Stefon McCray was key off the bench with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Dutchmen actually led as late as the 11:37 mark of the second half after
Kyler Burke capped a back-and-forth sequence with a layup to put LVC up 59-58, but Stevenson blitzed out of a timeout with an 11-0 run in less than two minutes, blowing open a 69-59 lead off Tyrus Costly's fastbreak dunk.
Lebanon Valley wouldn't stop the roll until a
Kevin Agnew layup at the 8:06 mark, but Stevenson scored the next six points to go up 16, and the Dutchmen never had another chance to get back in the game.
LVC shot a solid 46.6% for the game, but were hurt by 17 turnovers as Stevenson shot 52.1% - including 57.9% in the second half - and won the rebounding battle 42-31.
