ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon inside LVC Gymnasium over Moravian, 60-57.
The win is head coach
Brad McAlester's 300th during his tenure with the Dutchmen in his 20th season. McAlester now holds an overall record of 300-213 for his career.
The Valley held a small lead throughout the opening half as sophomore
Kyler Burke posted 10 first-half points to lead LVC into the break with a 32-26 advantage.
Moravian came out in the second and quickly closed the gap as a 6-0 run to open the second 20 minutes tied the game at 32 apiece. From there, the two teams went up and down the floor, playing within a three-point margin throughout the second stanza.
The winning possession came with 30 seconds remaining on the clock and LVC up just one, 58-57. With the shot clock winding down and Moravian looking to have a chance to regain possession with about five seconds to go, senior
Joey Giangiobbe put up a jumper in the middle of the lane that ricocheted off the rim.
Junior
Luke Berguson came flying in to grab the offensive rebound, dished it to junior
Kevin Agnew on the wing, and Agnew was fouled with one second left shooting a three-pointer. Agnew made two-of-three shots and a last-chance effort from the Bulldogs was batted away as the Dutchmen went on to win it, 60-57.
LVC had four different players in double figures as Burke led all scorers with 17 points on the afternoon with Agnew, Giangiobbe, and Berguson posting 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively. The Valley outrebounded Moravian 38-33 in the contest and shot 18-for-51 from the floor (35.3%).
