SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman
Alex Detweiler's goal opened the scoring, but the Lebanon Valley men's soccer team surrendered two goals to fall in the ECAC South Championship on Sunday afternoon to Swarthmore, 2-1.
After a defensive battle for the majority of the opening half, the Dutchmen finally worked a scoring chance opportunity, gaining a corner kick from the right side in the 33rd minute. Senior
Garth Stefan served the ball to the far side of the box where Detweiler put a head on it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
However, two Swarthmore goals in the ensuing eight minutes sealed the fate for the Valley as both teams were held scoreless in the second 45 minutes and the Garnet held on for a 2-1 victory.
The Valley managed just five shots on the day, but worked seven corner kicks with one leading to the lone goal. Swarthmore had 12 shots and three corners on the afternoon. The two Garnet goals were scored by Michael Superdock and Billy Evers.
LVC senior goalkeeper
James Clements made six saves on 12 shots faced in his final game between the pipes for the Dutchmen.
The Valley finishes its 2013 season with an overall record of 11-8-4.
