Three First Half Tallies Lift Men’s Soccer Over Albright

Box Score Men's Soccer
Lebanon Valley College 4, Albright College 2

READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team used three first half goals to take care of Albright on Saturday evening in Reading.

The win is the first for the Valley in Commonwealth Conference play moving their overall record to 7-5-3 and their conference mark to 1-3-1.

Senior Garth Stefan got the Dutchmen on the board first as he found the ball after a poor Albright clearing effort off a corner and slotted it in the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage in the seventh minute.

Less than five minutes later, sophomore Cam Alexander got in on the action. LVC was able to draw a foul deep in the Albright end, allowing Alexander the opportunity at a free kick from about 25 yards out. The sophomore buried a bender into the lower left corner to put the Valley up, 2-0.

LVC wasn't finished, though, as freshmen Gabe Stasyszyn and John Kok linked up for their first points of the year in the 37th minute. Kok fed it to Stasyszyn across the box and the rookie found the left side of the net under the outstretched arm of the Albright goalkeeper to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Lions were determined to make a game of it with two tallies coming out of the break, however. Albright's Kenny Horning sent a corner kick directly into the far-side netting in the 48th minute and less than nine minutes later, Vitali Zaluha used his head on the end of another corner to cut the Dutchmen lead to one at 3-2.

The Valley put away the game in the 68th minute as sophomore Cody Manmiller notched his first marker of the year to give LVC some insurance with a 4-2 advantage. Manmiller was able to get on the end of a free kick from senior Jim Fisher for the final goal of the game as LVC cruised to a 4-2 win.

Senior goalkeeper James Clements picked up his seventh win of the year, making six saves and facing 17 shots. The Lions held a 17-12 shot advantage in the game and notched seven corner kicks compared to four for the Valley.

The Dutchmen return home for another conference matchup with Hood at Herbert Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
