Hood Spoils LVC's Comeback Bid, 64-53

Box Score Men's Basketball
Hood 64, Lebanon Valley 53

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley's comeback attempt fell just short in the final minute as Hood won, 64-53, Wednesday night.

The Dutchmen (7-13, 4-9 CC) pulled within three with 21 seconds left, but the Blazers (11-9, 5-8 CC) ended the game on an 8-0 run as LVC wasn't able to convert a late scoring chance.

Danny Brooks was LVC's leader inside with 12 points and nine boards; Matt O'Brien scored 12, and Ryan Kinard had nine points with four assists. Garrett Kelly came off the bench for eight points, including a key late three-pointer.

Hood's Cameron Cook scored 15 to lead his side; Reggie Daniels had a 12-point, 11-rebound effort.

The Blazers led virtually the entire second half after a back-and-forth first period saw neither side lead by more than three after LVC made the game's first two buckets. Hood opened the second with a couple of jumpers from Davon Hill and Daniels to take a six-point led, but the Dutchmen hung in and eventually tied it, 43-43, at the 8:52 mark.

That would be the last time LVC sniffed at an advantage, though, as back-to-back threes by Hill and Cook combined with a Daniels putback to blow the game open at 51-43. Lebanon Valley began its comeback with a Brooks bucket, and a Kelly jumper followed by O'Brien's three-pointer made it a 53-50 game with 2:39 to go.

Daniels made a shot and a later free throw to lead by six inside a minute before Kelly drilled a three from the near wing with 21 seconds, turning it into a one-possession game; Matt Galloway made both of his foul shots, though, to effectively ice it as LVC missed a chance at the other end.

LVC will visit Albright on Saturday.
