ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - A second-half run by Elizabethtown dashed Lebanon Valley's comeback hopes as the Dutchmen fell 69-56 in Commonwealth Conference play.
The Dutchmen (7-12, 4-8 CC) shot an improved 51.9% in the second half to close down the Blue Jay lead to four at the mid-point of the second half, but a 10-0 E-town run blew the game open for the hosts.
Danny Brooks scored 20 to lead Lebanon Valley, and
Joey Giangiobbe put up a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Ryan Kinard, in his second straight start at point guard for
Kevin Agnew, scored 14 with three assists.
Elizabethtown was paced by Will Schlosser's 16 points off the bench, and Joe Schwalm added 15 points with four assists.
The Blue Jays never trailed, working up a big early lead up 22-9 before a 9-0 run closed it to 24-20 late in the first half. Elizabethtown responded with an 11-4 spurt to close the half, however, and led 35-24 at the break.
LVC chipped away at the lead in the second and cut it as close as three at 44-41 with 13:22 left, but after a Brooks jumper at the 9:13 mark, the hosts embarked on a 10-0 run sparked by a Schlosser three-pointer to lead 59-45 and take control.
Lebanon Valley wasn't done, though, as back-to-back buckets by
Matt O'Brien and Brooks, followed by Kinard's three-point play, made it 61-54; unfortunately that would be LVC's final basket as it was held to just two free throws by Giangiobbe and Kinard in the final 3:27.
LVC shot 46.8% for the game and out-rebounded E-town 34-33, but it was outside shooting that put the Jays over the top as they sank eight three-pointers to LVC's one.
The Dutchmen return home Wednesday night to host Hood at 8 p.m.
