Lebanon Valley 71, Elizabethtown 58
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley picked up a much-needed victory, tripping up Elizabethtown 71-58 in a must-win game Wednesday night.
The Dutchmen (11-11, 4-7 CC) split the season series with the Blue Jays (8-13, 4-7 CC) behind
Danny Brooks' 24-point, eight-rebound effort. LVC's slim playoffs hopes remained alive as Albright beat Alvernia; Lebanon Valley stands two games back of fourth place with three games left to play and will need to win out and get some help along the way.
Joe Meehan had a balanced 16-point, eight-assist game and
Jordan Stewart dropped a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Joe Schwalm paced E-town with 14 points.
LVC led the entire game, pushing the tempo and capitalizing on the transition game to build a double-digit lead by halftime. The Dutchmen held an 18-0 advantage on fastbreak points while going to the line 29 times; the Blue Jays relied on three-point shooting but struggled with a 6-for-27 night.
A 10-0 run late in the first half broke the game open for LVC to take a 28-18 lead, and the Dutchmen ended up outscoring E-town 19-9 over the final nine minutes of the first half.
The Blue Jays quickly cut the lead to six to start the second, but a Meehan three followed by
Matt O'Brien and Stewart layups re-established a double-digit lead that LVC wouldn't give up. Brooks scored 10 of his 24 points in seven-minute stretch midway through the half to help keep his team ahead.
Lebanon Valley will host Albright on Saturday for Senior Day and Hot Dog Frank Day.
