Albright 72, Lebanon Valley 67
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley nearly erased a 16-point second-half deficit, but couldn't catch up to Albright in a 72-67 setback on Senior Day Saturday.
In a must-win game for both teams in the Commonwealth Conference playoff race, the Dutchmen (11-12, 4-8 CC) didn't get the win they needed despite a superb 22-point game from
Jordan Stewart and 16 points apiece from
Danny Brooks and
Joe Meehan.
Albright put four starters in double figures, led by Derek Hall's 16 points.
An even opening saw the teams go back and forth, but a 14-2 run by the Lions over a 5:52 span late in the half blew the game open and gave them a 37-27 lead at the break.
Albright led by as much as 16 in the second half, but LVC answered back with a 17-5 span keyed by three-pointers from Meehan and
Kevin Agnew and a three-point play by Brooks.
Albright answered back with seven straight points to stop the momentum, but a gritty Dutchmen team wouldn't go away, bringing it back within four at 68-64 in the final minute. However, while trying to foul, Hall slipped free and dunked in open space with 36 seconds left, icing the result as Pedro Perez added a pair of late free throws.
Before the game, LVC honored seniors Meehan, Stewart, and
Cameron Prince, as well as student assistant trainer Emily Hafer, cheerleader Lauren Lebo, and manager Kyi Simmons. Long-time equipment room assistant
Jack Bixler was honored at halftime as the 2012 Hot Dog Frank Athletic Service Award recipient.
LVC concludes its season the road with games at Widener on Tuesday and Arcadia next Saturday.
