Lebanon Valley 2, #18 Elizabethtown 1
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Second-half goals from
Lyndee Sheaffer and
Bridget Monighan lifted Lebanon Valley to a 2-1 upset of #18 Elizabethtown in the regular-season finale.
The win clinched the #2 seed and a home Commonwealth Conference playoff game for the Dutchmen (11-7, 5-2 CC) on Oct. 31. Their opponent? The Blue Jays (13-4, 5-2 CC), who fell to the #3 seed with the loss. The game time will be announced Thursday.
LVC scored on its only two shots of the second half as the defense, led by
Chloe Baro's six saves, withstood a 17-7 shots disadvantage and seven E-town penalty corners. LVC was outshot 10-2 in the second half.
The Blue Jays' Emily Butler redirected Emily Mason's hit off a corner at 8:22 to put the home team up, and the score stayed that way until the half as E-town led 7-5 on first-half shots.
The Valley was efficient with its shooting in the second half, and substitute
Kelsey Heck came on in the 40th minute and made an immediate impact, passing to her right for Sheaffer to finish and level the game at 1-1.
Five Blue Jay shots missed the mark over the next 10 minutes until LVC drew a corner, and Monighan banked in the shot at the post from
Lauren Brumbach to put her side ahead at 54:55. LVC had to ride out a
Kristen Garman yellow card and four E-town shots in the final 15 minutes.
