Field Hockey Battles Tough against DeSales in Final Home Game

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley field hockey team battled toe-to-toe with DeSales University, dropping a tough 4-2 decision in a hard-fought MAC Freedom contest on Wednesday evening at Arnold Field.

The Dutchmen came out aggressive in the opening half, earning several penalty corners and creating quality scoring opportunities. Lebanon Valley broke through early in the second quarter when Claire Weidenhammer found the back of the cage at the 16:04 mark to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead. The goal was Weidenhammer's team-leading 18th of the season. She collected a loose ball in the middle of the circle and fired a shot into the back of the cage.

DeSales generated pressure throughout the second quarter, but goalkeeper Ella Weidenhammer stood tall, making a series of saves to preserve the advantage. The senior keeper turned away multiple shots during a busy stretch as the Dutchmen carried their one-goal lead into halftime.

LVC extended its lead late in the third quarter after a strong offensive push. Following a saved shot by Maggie McAteer, Lilah Shaub was in position to capitalize on the rebound, scoring her fourth goal of the season with 1:15 remaining in the period to make it 2-0. Shaub collected a ball outside the circle, took a few dribbles to get the ball inside the circle, and blasted a ball into the back of the cage. The Bulldogs responded in the fourth quarter, scoring four times over the final 14 minutes to erase the deficit.
