MADISON, N.J. - Tough defense - including four interceptions - complemented a balance offense as Lebanon Valley improved to 5-2 with a 41-14 win at FDU-Florham.
The Dutchmen held the Devils (1-6) to just 183 yards of offense in an occasionally sloppy game that saw LVC take full control with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns.
Evan Fink scored twice on the ground, and
Joey Miller and
Jake Zeigler each caught touchdowns to complement a third-quarter
Josh Borreli pick-six.
Brendan Kain added a fourth-quarter insurance touchdown.
Sean Fakete became LVC's all-time PAT leader, extending his career total to 85 with five extra points to surpass Brittany Ryan '10's 82.
LVC rode a balanced rushing attack as four Dutchmen had eight or more touches, led by Kain's career-high 71 yards on 13 carries, and Conrad heisey had 32 yards also on 13 touches.
Kenny King racked up 42 yards on eight attempts.
Leo Kyte went 11-for-14 for 175 yards, with Zeigler's 113 yards leading all receivers.
LVC's punishing defense stopped FDU all day long, holding the Devils to less than 100 yards each of rushing (84) and passing (99) as
Derek Nye,
Mike Pugh,
Bryan Ek, and Borreli all intercepted passes.
The sides traded scores in the first period, with Miller's seven-yard grab putting LVC on the board before Nick DeFeo hauled in a short route to tie the game. Zeigler's 28-yarder put LVC ahead for good, and Fink's first extended the lead to 21-7 midway through the third. Ted Cebulski brought back a touchdown for FDU with a catch in the final minute of the first half.
The second half was all Dutchmen as Fink scored his 13th of the year to open the half before Borreli's second interception return for a touchdown came back 20 yards to blow the game open at 35-14. Kain punched in from a yard out in the fourth quarter to end it at 41-14.
LVC returns home Oct. 27 to host Delaware Valley.
