Late Arcadia Comeback Stuns Dutchmen

Box Score Field Hockey
Arcadia 4, Lebanon Valley 3

ANNVILLE, Pa. - A stunning three-goal comeback, including two in the final five minutes, pushed Arcadia by Lebanon Valley 4-3 on Tuesday.

LVC had led 3-1 at the break after a blistering first half in which they outshot Arcadia 23-5, but a superb defensive effort by the Knights kept them in the game and gave them a chance at the comeback.

Despite the loss, the Dutchmen (9-6, 4-2 CC) can still clinch the #2 seed and a home Commonwealth Conference tournament game with a win over Elizabethtown in their final league game next Wednesday. The Knights (11-4, 4-3 CC) were fighting for playoff positioning, and they clinched a playoff berth with the win.

Mandi Albright opened the scoring in the ninth minute, tipping Kelsey Miller's shot at the far post, and Cate Cusack tipped a hard shot by Lauren Brumbach at 21:00 to double the lead.

Arcadia's Katrina Dull deflected Taylor Dalisera's drive into the top of the cage three minutes later to make it 2-1, but Caitlin Vasey finished Nicole Vasiliu's pass just before halftime to take a 3-1 lead.  Vasey's goal took her to 148 career points, moving her to fifth all-time at LVC.

The Knights began to turn the momentum in their favor when Marilyn Beatty redirected Dalisera's shot on a penalty corner at 50:46, and Jennie Kamel hit her league-leading 22nd goal of the year on a long solo counterattack with 4:19 left to level the game.

That set up a dramatic finish with Dull tipping Kamel's corner hit at the post to win it with 2:13 remaining.

Arcadia goalie Mia DePlato was superb, making 18 saves (including 14 in the first half) while Dalisera cleared two off the line. Chloe Baro stopped five for LVC. The Dutchmen outshot Arcadia 28-10, but the teams were an even 5-5 in the second half. Corners were 12-12, with Arcadia leading 9-4 in the second half.

Lebanon Valley will swing through Virginia this weekend to play #19 Lynchburg and Roanoke.
