Late Goals Keep LVC From Beating #2 Messiah

Box Score Women's Soccer
Lebanon Valley 2, Messiah 3

ANNVILLE, Pa. – It almost happened. Lebanon Valley came within minutes of beating Messiah for the first time in program history, but succumbed to three second-half goals in a 3-2 heartbreaker Saturday afternoon.

The Dutchmen entered Saturday with a 0-20-1 all-time record since 1997, including losses in the regular season and postseason last year. Early goals from Lindi Crist and Heather Tran, who both scored in the 32nd minute Saturday, piqued the attention of the homecoming crowd that included a number of program alumni.

Crist scored on a 30-yard free kick brought on by the Falcons fouling Nicole Snyder. For Crist, the goal was her second of the season. Snyder was held scoreless throughout the match but remained a physical presence up front against a team that looked to defend her by any means necessary.

Snyder got a shot off moments later that deflected off the post and set up the opportunity for Tran, who scored her first goal of the season to give LVC a 2-0 advantage.

The Dutchmen (7-6, 3-2 CC) were outshot 13-12 but did lead through most of the match. The Falcons (12-1-1, 5-0) were held scoreless through the 63rd minute before goals by Kyele Bridel, Alicia Frey, and Rachel Scheibeler.

Sami Young made three saves in the match but can be credited greatly in keeping the Falcons scoreless for so long. Young was quick to loose balls and spoiled several crosses in the loss.

The Dutchmen play at Hood Friday at 4 p.m.
