BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Megan Ressler netted a goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team during its season opener, as the program dropped a hard-fought 2-1 contest to Moravian University on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at John Makuvek Field. The game was called at the 71:13 mark due to lightning.
The Dutchmen (0-1-0) and the Greyhounds (1-0-0) battled defensively early in the first half, as neither team took a shot for over 11 minutes at the start. LVC registered the first shot of the night, as
Ashlynn Newton sent an attempt over the net at the 11:07 mark. Ressler then put a shot on goal for Lebanon Valley, which was saved at the 13:15 mark. The Flying Dutchmen followed this by opening the scoring 13:50 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead. The program got on the board with a goal by Ressler, courtesy of an assist by
Jayme Beninda. Moravian later countered with a shot on goal at the 18:55 mark, but goalkeeper
Camryn Porter answered with a save for LVC.
The Greyhounds scored 27:55 into the first half, tying the game at 1-1 on a goal by Macy McFarland. The Dutchmen also kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the stanza progressed, logging four shots during the final 8:24 of the first. During this stretch,
Abrielle Miller took a shot that was saved at the 36:36 mark, and Newton had a try saved at the 37:59 mark. Ultimately, the programs entered halftime in a 1-1 tie.
The defenses of both programs continued to limit scoring chances when the second half got underway, as over 12 minutes passed before a shot was put on target. Lebanon Valley tallied a pair of attempts in the 58th minute, as both Beninda and Newton had shots saved within 26 seconds.
The Greyhounds then scored again at the 64:20 mark, taking a 2-1 advantage on a goal by Ari Garcia. LVC followed this with a shot by Miller at the 66:45 mark, which went to the right of the net. The contest was then called at the 71:13 mark due to lightning, prompting Moravian to win 2-1.
