Lebanon Valley 6, Haverford 2
Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley scored five second-half goals - including three in the final six minutes - to get past Haverford, 6-2, behind a pair of goals each by
Jocelyn Novak and
Jess Cox.
Novak scored in the 45th minute to put LVC up 2-1, then notched the 110th of her career in the 65th minute to spark a three-goal run to end the game by the Dutchmen (4-3), who won their fourth in a row. The goals put Novak one away from tying the Commonwealth Conference record of 111, held by Messiah's Danae Chambers, and she will have a chance to tie or break that mark Saturday when LVC plays at #3 Messiah.
Cox scored the first and fifth goals for LVC and also assisted Novak's first, while
Cate Cusack had the eventual gamewinner and
Caitlin Vasey scored with 15 seconds left in the game.
Christine Poletti was outstanding at the back, making 12 saves to earn the win as LVC outshot Haverford 31-20, including 18-9 in the second half. The Dutchmen had to withstand 14 Haverford (4-2) penalty corners while taking 11 of their own.
Haverford's Mary Hobbs scored just 23 seconds into the game, putting home Jacque Fagan's rebounded shot, LVC pressed and found their first goal on Cox's big hit from the top of the circle in the 25th minute.
The score remained 1-1 into the second half when Novak swept in a goal off Cox's pass at 44:16, and Cusack made it 3-1 three minutes later on a nifty spin around the goalkeeper to convert
Mandi Albright's feed.
Haverford made it interesting when Hobbs scored an incredible stick-dribble goal off a penalty corner in the 61st minute, but Novak's second in the 65th gave LVC some breathing room while Cox (from
Nicole Vasiliu) and Vasey finished it with goals in the final two minutes.
Sydney Hyder made 11 saves in the losing effort for the Fords.
LVC heads to #3 Messiah on Saturday to open CC play.
