WBB Closes Regular Season With Win Over Alvernia

ANNVILLE, Pa. – #17/#16 Lebanon Valley women's basketball finished the regular season on a high note with an 87-34 win over Alvernia Saturday afternoon. The teams will face off again Wednesday at 6 p.m., when the top-seeded Dutchmen host the fourth-seeded Crusaders in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals.

Renee Fritz led the offensive effort for LVC, going 12-for-14 from the floor and finishing with a career-high 25 points. She added five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in 24 minutes of action.

Tallying her first double-double of the season and second in her career, Andrea Hoover registered 12 points and 10 assists. Two other players reached double digits in scoring with 14 points from Caitlin Bach and 11 from Tierney Hiltz. All 12 players that saw action for the Dutchmen scored two or more points.

Lebanon Valley (23-2, 13-1 CC) held Alvernia (13-12, 6-8 CC) to 34 points in the game, 15 of which came in the first half. It was the seventh game this season LVC has held an opponent under 40 points, while the Dutchmen's 87 points scored were the most in a game this season.

Alvernia started the game with three-straight baskets for the early 6-0 lead. The Dutchmen responded with a 20 point run and controlled the game from there. The Crusaders scored just nine points for the remainder of the first half, while Lebanon Valley went on another run late, scoring 12 straight points. Amanda Donia ended the first with a layup, pushing LVC's lead to 28 points.

The start of the second half was delayed due to a brief power outage, but the interruption didn't stop the Dutchmen as they scored 18 points to open play while holding Alvernia to five points. Lebanon Valley began another run at 10:28, tallying nine points. The Crusaders scored just two baskets in the final 10 minutes of the contest and were held to nine points. LVC racked up 17 points to end the game.

LVC shot 55.6% from the floor for the game, including 64% in the second half. Alvernia shot 20% from the floor, 14.3% behind the arc, and 61.1% at the free throw line in the contest.

Prior to the game, the team honored its three seniors - Andrea Hoover, Suzie Noyes, and Eryn Schultz.

For the second-straight year, Lebanon Valley will host Alvernia in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal. The Dutchmen are making their fourth-straight appearance in the conference playoffs and 10th overall. Wednesday's game is part of a doubleheader, with the women's game beginning at 6 p.m. and the men's contest starting at 8 p.m.

The Dutchmen conclude the regular season with a 23-2 overall record, the fewest loses in a regular season in program history.
