Lebanon Valley 76, Moravian 70
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley improved to 7-3 behind 20-point performances by
Joe Meehan and
Jordan Stewart, dropping Moravian 76-70 in a non-league game Saturday.
The Dutchmen had one of their best shooting games of the year, hitting 55.1 percent of their shots to get past the Greyhounds (3-6) with a key second-half run.
Meehan, coming off a 30-point game on Wednesday, drained 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting, and Stewart had a season-high 21 points while shooting 6-of-8.
Sammy Diaz came off the bench to have one of the best games of his career, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 for nine points.
Moravian had four scorers in double figures, led by Garrett Johnson's 16 and DJ Strayhorn's 15. The Greyhounds led by as much as 10 points in the first half before LVC pared it down to a managable 36-32 at the half.
The lead wavered back and forth in the second, with neither side going up by more than a bucket for nearly 10 minutes until a 10-2 run by the Dutchmen took control of the game and gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Down by a bucket at the midway point of the half, a Diaz layup and two Meehan foul shots took the lead, and Stewart then hit a foul shot, followed by a key three-pointer to go up four before Meehan capped the run with a jumper at the 7:09 mark, going up 64-58.
Moravian eventually brought it back to a basket at 71-68 with 50 seconds left, but Meehan and Stewart each hit a foul shot apiece over the next few seconds, with a key Meehan offensive rebound inbetween wasting 14 seconds off the clock. Strayhorn had a turnover at the other end, and Moravian never managed a shot until it was too late and Stewart had polished off the win at the line.
The Dutchmen will break for finals before visiting Misericordia on Dec. 18.
