Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - The #9 Lebanon Valley women's basketball team made its first push toward a third consecutive Rinso Marquette Tournament championship with a 59-35 win over Gallaudet Friday night at the LVC Gymnasium.
After surrendering a three-pointer in the first minute of play, the Dutchmen (2-0) captured and maintained a lead that lasted through the duration of the game.
Sophomore guard
Caitlin Bach was spectacular for LVC with a team-high 17 points on the night.
One way to explain Bach's success was the height advantage that she and her teammates held over Gallaudet. The Bison (0-2) do not have a woman on the roster taller than 5-9. The Dutchmen were able to play big and led 28-14 in points in the paint. They were able to score 19 second-chance points, a function of the 47-29 advantage they held in rebounding.
The Dutchmen used an 18-2 run to build a lead that grew as large as 21 points in the first half. Freshman guard
Kiely Chaklos started the rally off with a jumper from Cailin Murphy. By the end of the run, five different women were contributors.
LVC started the second half with a 30-13 lead. They battered the Bison throughout the half, including an 11-2 run, and led by as many as 26 points.
Rachel Armor was the last to score for the Dutchmen with just 27 seconds left. They surrendered one final basket before holding the ball and sealing the win.
Offensive stats were distributed across the entire roster for the Dutchmen. After Bach,
Renee Fritz and
Liz Borgia led with seven and six points, respectively. The bench scored 36 total points.
Bach also led with nine rebounds--five on offense and four on defense.
Courtney Escudero was right behind her with eight total.
Sarah Colton made her season debut for LVC, notching nine minutes in the second half.
The win advances LVC to the championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Dutchmen will face Penn State Harrisburg. The consolation game will be played at 1 p.m. between Gallaudet and Pittsburgh-Bradford.
