SCRANTON, Pa. – #21 Lebanon Valley women's basketball won its third-straight with a 60-49 victory over Marywood Thursday evening. Five players scored 10 or more points for the Dutchmen, led by 14 from
Liz Borgia.
Andrea Hoover and
Suzie Noyes both added 11 points, while
Renee Fritz and
Caitlin Murphy each contributed 10 points. Fritz and Noyes shared the team lead in rebounds with nine boards aside and Hoover dished out four assists. Leading the blocking effort was Noyes with three.
Marywood recorded the game's first basket, maintaining the lead for the only time in the game. LVC took over from there, scoring five straight points. Back-to-back baskets from the Pacers Marielle Thorsen cut the lead to four points at 10:45. The Dutchmen responded with another streak, rattling off nine points to go up by 13 with 7:56 remaining. Noyes ended the half scoring two of LVC's final three baskets to push the advantage to 15 points at 33-18.
The Dutchmen came out of the break with baskets from Fritz and Borgia to hold a 19 point lead, the largest of the game. Both teams exchanged points for the rest of the contest, and LVC maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the game.
LVC scored 12 points in the paint and received nine from the bench during the second half, while Marywood notched eight points off second chance opportunities and added 12 from the bench.
Murphy and Fritz led the team from the floor, shooting 4-for-6 in the game. Borgia, Noyes and Murphy were all perfect from the free throw line for Lebanon Valley.
Taking a break for the holidays, LVC returns to action on Dec. 29-30 at the Lycoming Basketball Tournament. The Dutchmen open play on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. against Richard Stockton.
