Icers Suffer First Loss of Season

HERSHEY, Pa.
– A late goal in the third period gave Drexel the 4-3 win over Lebanon Valley ice hockey Friday evening at Hersheypark Arena. Goalie Rich Drazin made a season high 46 saves in the loss.

Lebanon Valley started off strong, scoring 1:18 into the game with a goal from Matthew Conroy, assisted by Matthew Kisiday. Drexel took over from there, rattling off 12 straight shots and went on to hold a 15-5 shot advantage. The Dragons had two power play opportunities, while LVC had one late in the first period.

The Dragons tied the score at 6:31 of the second period with an unassisted goal from Kyle Zoldy. LVC got into penalty trouble in the second, giving the Dragons three power plays but Drazin stood tall, stopping all shots. Drexel again held the advantage in shots, 17-7.

Both teams racked up numerous penalties in the third period, trading power play opportunities. Halfway through the period, an odd bounce off the boards gave Drexel a 2-1 lead. The Dutchmen responded at 10:10 with a goal from team-leader Nicholas Schultz. A 5-on-3 power play tally, Corey Conte and Tyler Skroski assisted.

Drexel pulled ahead at 15:33 of the third. Skroski again tied the score at 17:35 with a shorthanded tally, hitting a shot from the point for his first collegiate goal. The Dragons secured the win 20 seconds later with a goal from David Hannaway.

The Dutchmen host Penn State Berks on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
