CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Rachel Pantalone's 63rd-minute goal broke a frustrating scoreless deadlock to lift #9 Lebanon Valley past DeSales, 1-0, in non-conference action Thursday.
The Dutchmen (4-1) held overwhelming advantages in shots and corners, but couldn't break through as the Bulldogs (1-5) played outstanding defense.
LVC's defense was equal to the task; goalkeeper
Caitlin Baro had to make just one save, but it was a big one on a penalty stroke by Carla Nunez in the first half.
The Dutchmen outshot the Bulldogs 18-1, including 12-0 in the second half, and took 23 penalty corners while DeSales had none.
The frustration ended in the 63rd minute with the fourth in a string of corners, and
Shelly Lobach injected a ball for Pantalone, who notched her first of the year to win it.
LVC looked for more, but despite seven more corners in the final 5:23 of the game, another goal was not in the cards.
The Dutchmen will return home to host #14 Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon.
