Messiah's Late Run Stops MBB, 75-65

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Messiah College used a late 7-0 run to break open a tie game and defeat Lebanon Valley, 75-65, in a Commonwealth Conference men's basketball game Saturday.

The Dutchmen (10-11, 3-6 CC) fell into a last-place tie with the loss, but remain just a game out of fourth place. The Falcons (8-14, 5-4 CC) solidified their hold on third place in the conference standings.

After LVC tied the game on Kyle Enoch's three-pointer with 4:25 left, Messiah's Jamie Yoder answered with a long ball of his own to spark a 9-2 spurt that all but ended LVC's chances.

Enoch led all scorers with 22 points, including four three-pointers, and Joe Meehan drained 17. Jason Miller led Messiah with 12 points, and Andy Hawk added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Messiah shot a torrid 60.9 percent in the second half to finish 25-of-50 overall. The Dutchmen shot 41.4 percent for the game and were out-rebounded 37-26.

The first half was a dogfight with neither team by more than five. After LVC built a four-point lead in the closing minutes, Messiah ended on a 5-0 run with two Josh Hartman foul shots and Danny Wrigley's buzzer-beating three-pointer to retake the lead, 31-30.

The Falcons built their lead to six points to start the second, but three straight buckets from Enoch erased the lead and put LVC up 41-40 seven minutes into the half. The Dutchmen couldn't hold a lead, however, despite tying the game three times down the stretch before Messiah's late run. Messiah's 10-point lead at the end of the game was its largest.

LVC will return home to face Arcadia Wednesday at 8 p.m.
