ANNVILLE, Pa. - Cabrini College ran out to a big early lead, then held off Lebanon Valley in the second half to win, 68-59, in non-conference men's basketball play Wednesday night.
After red-hot shooting in their season opener against Moravian, the Dutchmen (1-1) had a lackluster night, shooting just 29.3 percent overall and 8-for-31 in the second half. The Valley left plenty at the line, going 19-for-31.
Cabrini (2-0) wasn't much better for their part (25-for-69, 36.2%), but the Cavaliers hit five first-half three-pointers and generated 17 points off turnovers.
Jordan Stewart led LVC with 11 points, while
Dan Dunkelberger was a point shy of his second double-double in as many games with nine points and 16 boards.
Joe Meehan added seven points and five assists, and
Sean MacIntosh drained 10 points.
Kevin Misevicious scored 17 for Cabrini, one of four Cavaliers in double figuires along with Cory Lemons (14 points, 7 rebounds), Dom Farrello (13 points), and Corey White (10 points).
After Stewart hit the game's opening shot, it was all Cabrini as the Cavaliers pulled out to a 13-point lead by the midway point of the first half. The lead ballooned to 19 after Farello's three-pointer late in the half, but a pair of foul shots and a tip-in by Dunkelberger put LVC down 15 at the break, 42-27.
A 7-0 run by LVC to start the second half put the game in reach, starting with MacIntosh's trey and ending with a
Grant Becker foul shot, but Cabrini answered with its own 7-0 spurt to re-establish the 15-point lead.
The Dutchmen never recovered as they went ice-cold from the floor, and they didn't pull within single digits again until a pair of foul shots in the final seconds by
David Corbin.
LVC will host Penn State Harrisburg Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the first round of the Rinso Marquette Tournament.
