MBB Routs Moravian In Opener, 87-53

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Lebanon Valley opened a big early lead and never stepped off the gas, opening the 2009-10 season with a convincing 87-53 win over Moravian on Sunday.

The Dutchmen (1-0) shot a blistering 61.7 percent from the floor while holding the Greyhounds (0-1) to 32.8 percent overall and 3-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Jordan Stewart, in his first career start, drained 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and senior Dan Dunkelberger notched a 13-13 double-double to go with three big blocks. Sophomore point guard Joe Meehan dished out eight assists, and Zach Kebetz added 11 points.

It was LVC's highest offensive output in a season opener since beating Washington & Jefferson 90-62 in 1990-91, and it was the largest margin of victory in a debut since beating the Lebanon YMCA in a non-collegiate game, 60-25, in 1913-14.

Eric Weaver and Nelson Leon each had 10 points to lead Moravian. The Greyhounds started off 0-for-14 from three-point range before Nnamdi Njoku drained one with 8:38 left in the second half.

The Dutchmen quickly opened up a double-digit lead when Dunkelberger's layup made it 18-8 less than eight minutes into the game, and the lead never dipped below that as LVC used a couple of big runs, including a 9-0 stretch at one point on the way to a 30-point halftime lead.

Even as the benches were cleared, LVC's lead never fell below 30 in the second half as the Dutchmen kept pumping in the points on 64.3 percent second-half shooting.

LVC stays at home to host Cabrini on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
