ANNVILLE, Pa. - Three school records fell as the LVC swim teams picked up a pair of wins over the DeSales University club program on Saturday at the Arnold Sports Center.
Kristen Zartman shattered the 800-meter free record by 17 seconds, while
Lisa Niethamer and
John Heenan broke 14 year-old marks in the 200 breaststroke.
Jeff Bush came within three-tenths of a 16-year old record in the 50-free, as well.
The men's team won 121-63, while the women won 130-82. LVC was first in all but three events.
Zartman touched in 10:30.82 to take 17 seconds off the record of 10:47.88 set by
Danielle Kern in 2006. In the 200 breaststroke, Niethamer finished in 2:58.26 to best
Gina Fontana's 14 year-old time of 2:59.40. One event later, it was Heenan who set a new standard as he, too, topped a 14 year-old record with his time of 2:41.69, a second-and-a-half-better than
Bob Twining's 1995 mark of 2:43.28.
Meanwhile, Bush came close to one of the oldest records on LVC's books, approaching Harold Spangler's 1993 time of 25.12 in the 50-free with his 25.48.
LVC racked up 10 MAC Championship qualifiers overall, with
Johnny Schoenberger (100 free), Zartman (800 free),
Mary Gardner (200 breast), and Niethamer (200 breast, 200 IM) all getting in under the "A" cuts while
Ryan Humphries (200 free), Schoenberger (50 free), Bush (500 free), Zartman (100 back), and Gardner (100 free) got "B" cut times.
LVC is back in action next Saturday, hosting Drew at 1 p.m.
