Laird's Overtime Score Powers Women's Soccer to 1-0 Win

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Stevi Laird capped her impressive freshman season for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team with an overtime goal against Lycoming to give LVC a 1-0 win in the final game of the 2009 season.

The Dutchmen had the edge throughout most of the match, outshooting the Warriors, 19-8, for the match. In the second half and overtime, LVC outshot Lycoming, 13-2. However, Chelsea Powers was right there in net for Lycoming for most of the game, making 10 saves - eight of which came after halftime.

Sara Drabenstadt, Ely Kirkhoff and Nicole Snyder each took three shots for the Dutchmen.

Laird had only one shot, but made it count. In the 92nd minute, she dribbled in alone on the right side and took a low shot to the bottom left corner that beat Powers. It was Laird's fourth goal of the season.

Before the game, LVC honored its senior class. Yvonne Mohr and Dana Thomsen were saluted for their contributions to the LVC women's soccer program over their careers and were joined by their families on the field. Thomsen was able to play 26 minutes in the game despite battling a knee injury suffered earlier this season. Mohr almost ended the game in overtime 24 seconds before the final score, but her shot was saved.

The Dutchmen end 2009 with a 7-11-1 record and a 2-5 mark in conference play.
