LVC Trounces Widener, 7-0, Clinches CC #2 Seed

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Freshman Caitlin Vasey tied an LVC single-game record with four assists, and junior Shelly Lobach tied for the career lead in helpers as the #7 Dutchmen dominated Widener, 7-0, in the regular-season finale.

LVC (16-2, 6-1 CC) clinched a home Commonwealth Conference playoff semifinal with the win, and will host third-seeded Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 3 p.m. In the other semi, top-seeded Messiah hosts third-seeded Widener (11-5, 4-3 CC).

Jocelyn Novak notched her ninth career hat trick as LVC turned in one of its most complete performances of the season, ripping 40 shots and holding the Pride to just a single chance.

Vasey's four assists, which all came in the first half, tied the single-game mark set in 2004 by Alyssa Stine '08 against, ironically, Widener. Meanwhile, Lobach's assist on Vasey's goal late in the first half was the 36th of her career, tying her with former strike partner Alex Wolfe '09 for the program record.

It was all LVC from the opening whistle as Vasey and Novak hit a two-on-one break, and the freshman slotted a great pass as Novak went five-hole on Megan Purcell just 2:40 into the game.

Lobach tallied on a tough angle shot at 11:20, also from Vasey, and Nikki Bomberger converted a penalty stroke at 17:31.

Vasey then created two more goals, crossing a ball for Allison Bicher at 20:20, and hooking up again with Novak at 23:30. Vasey then scored her own to cap a six-point game off Lobach's assist at 28:08.

A subdued second half yielded just one goal as Novak completed her hat trick with a hard shot after Jenni Walker's pass forward.

Caitlin Baro had to make just one save to notch her fifth shutout of the year. Purcell had 23 saves as LVC outshot the Pride 40-1 and held a 23-3 corner advantage.
