Women's Soccer Stopped at #1 Messiah

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. -
Lebanon Valley College ran into the number one team in the country on Wednesday night, and the Messiah Falcons proved why they sit atop the rankings with a 6-1 win.

The Dutchmen were trailing 2-0 before the clock ticked off five minutes and were behind 3-0 after 12 minutes.

LVC countered in the 15th minute with a Nicole Snyder goal. Her sixth strike of the season cut the lead to a pair, but that was as close as the Dutchmen would get.

Nine minutes later, Amanda Naeher scored her third goal of the first half - and 16th of the season - to extend the lead to 4-1. Messiah scored again in the 34th minute to take a 5-1 lead into halftime. The Falcons closed out the scoring in the 71st minute with a Rache Loya score.

Sami Young and Alyson Reitmeyer each played a half in goal for LVC - and they were extremely busy. Messiah took 41 shots with 23 of them reaching goal. Young made seven saves in the first half and Reitmeyer made eight in the second half. LVC defenders also blocked two shots for team saves. On the contrary, LVC took just three shots, having trouble breaking through Messiah's defense.

The Dutchmen are back in action Oct. 17 at Albright in a crucial CC matchup. Both teams are 1-2-0 in the conference and sit in a tie for fifth.
