Lycoming Nips Dutchmen In Nailbiter, 56-54

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa
. - Lycoming College held off a late Lebanon Valley surge, preventing LVC from taking a potential game-winning shot to win, 56-54, in a Commonwealth Conference game Wednesday night.

The Warriors' James Oberlies stripped Anthony Trautman of the ball with one second left, nullifying LVC's final chance just seconds after Trautman hit a three-pointer to pull within a point of the lead.

Kyle Enoch scored 26 points, including five three-pointers, to move within 22 points of 1,000 for his career. Greg Sye scored 16 for Lycoming.

LVC shot just 29.4 percent for the game while committing 17 turnovers, but stayed in the game at the line with 18 foul shots.

The first half plodded along with Lycoming in the lead until the Dutchmen went on an 11-0 run to end the half, keyed by a pair of Enoch threes. Dan Dunkelberger converted a three-point play with 27 seconds left to give LVC its first lead of the game while holding Lyco scoreless for the final 3:14 of the half.

The lead switched hands several times in the second half, with neither side pulling away for long. Late in the game, Enoch canned his final three-pointer to put LVC up a point, 47-46, with 4:44 left, but Eric Anthony's layup 20 seconds later put Lycoming in the lead for good.

The Warriors slowly built up a six-point lead with a 7-0 spurt, but Joe Meehan's three-point play cut the lead to three with 2:07 left. Lyco slowed down the game and went back up five on Sye's jumper, and after Eric Humphrey made one of two foul shots, Trautman made his three-pointer to put LVC down a point with 15 seconds left.

Sebastian Sabella missed his foul shot chance and Trautman rebounded the ball, but out of a timeout, the sophomore was picked off by Oberlies before ever getting a chance to shoot for the win.

LVC will be back at home on Saturday against Messiah.
