ANNVILLE, Pa. - Freshman
Jocelyn Novak scored a hat trick to lead #5 Lebanon Valley College past FDU-Florham, 8-1, Saturday at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
The Dutchmen (4-0) scored eight unanswered goals, including six in the second half, after the Red Devils (3-2) scored first.
Novak's hat trick was the first of her collegiate career;
Nikki Bomberger also added two goals in the game.
FDU struck early on Karlee Teeling's goal seven minutes in, but the Dutchmen came roaring back with Bomberger launching a rocket off
Shelly Lobach's corner injection in the 13th minute.
Novak scored her first unassisted to take the lead four minutes later, and the score stayed 2-1 until the half.
LVC, however, opened up the floodgates after the break. Lobach tallied with a run from the wing in the 40th minute, and Bomberger scored an identical goal to her first two minutes later. Novak made it 5-1 in the 45th minute with a tip off
Alex Wolfe's shot, then completed her hat trick with an unassisted strike at 50:57.
Avery Carter added a penalty stroke and
Allison Bicher scored off the post in the late going to round out the scoring.
Caitlin Baro earned the win with a save in 54:30 of work.
Christine Poletti made a stop in 15:30 of relief. FDU used three goalkeepers, with starter Jamie SanFilippo making eight saves and taking the loss in 54:30 of action.
LVC outshot the Devils by a huge margin, 30-3, and held a 12-4 corner advantage.
Lebanon Valley visits Dickinson College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
