SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team extended its record-breaking season record Wednesday, topping Susquehanna University, 8-1, in its regular-season finale.
The Dutchmen (17-3) improved upon their already program-best record. They were playing their final tune-up before taking on Messiah in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals on Saturday.
At No. 2 singles, Leslie Sabas eased past Katie Zimmerman, 6-2, 6-2, to tie the LVC record for wins in a season at 18, set last year by teammate Sarah Grodzinski. Sabas is 18-2 this season; Grodzinski is 16-3.
Meanwhile, Charissa Nordall broke the record for doubles wins in a season, teaming with Kelly Moll to beat Christine Crigler and Eliza Lewis, 8-6. Nordall is 14-2 this season in doubles, besting Jenny Larson '06's record of 13 wins in 2004-05. Nordall is also now one win short of Larson's career doubles wins record of 33.
Lebanon Valley won all six singles flights, as Grodzinski handled Brittany Guerin, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1, and Moll beat Alexandra Tonetti, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3. Sammy Burkey and Nordall turned in perfect matches at Nos. 4 and 5, both winning 6-0, 6-0, and Shayna Heintzelman beat Crigler at No. 6, 6-2, 6-2.
LVC's only blemish was a loss at No. 1 doubles, as Zimmerman and Guerin defeated Grodzinski and Heintzelman 8-3.
