Women's Soccer Edges Susquehanna, 1-0

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Junior Jenny DiMauro scored the game's only goal in the 77th minute as Lebanon Valley College beat Susquehanna University, 1-0, on a hot Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field.

The Flying Dutchmen (5-3) have now pushed their winning streak to five after starting the season 0-3. Susquehanna (5-4) had a number of quality chances late in the game, but could not find the equalizer.

LVC had a golden opportunity four minutes into the game when freshman Lauren King put a header on goal. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper Meredith Tompeck's hand and had to be cleared off the line by Susquehanna's Laura Haldeman.

Neither team did much of anything else in the first half, combining for six shots as they played to a scoreless halftime break.

The action picked up in the second half, however. Susquehanna's best scoring opportunity came in the 72nd minute, when Katie Brooks controlled the ball out of a scramble and hit the left post with a hard shot.

Lebanon Valley came back the other way, and DiMauro notched the gamewinner with a shot from the six, beating Tompeck.

Despite holding the 1-0 lead, LVC continued to pressure for the remainder of the game, taking five shots after the goal. King nearly made it 2-0 in the 85th minute when her laser hit the crossbar.

In a chaotic final minute, Susquehanna's Julie Briskey took a free kick from 20 yards out that was saved by junior Erika Ely. The Crusaders got the ball back with just seconds left, and Erin Coffey managed to get free with the ball on a breakaway.

Fortunately for the Dutchmen, the horn blew just as Coffey entered the box and before she could get a shot off.

Ely was outstanding, making seven saves to earn her third clean sheet of the year. Tompeck stopped five.

Lebanon Valley held a slight edge in shots, 11-10, and corners, 6-3.

The Dutchmen will visit McDaniel College Thursday at 4 p.m.
