Swimming Takes a Pair At King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College men's and women's swimming teams opened their seasons with a pair of wins Saturday over King's College.

The men's team picked up a 117-71 victory, while the women swam to a 128-53 win.

Freshman Ally Birli kicked off her three wins, clocking a 1:04.06 in the 100 fly. Birli also captured the 500-free in 6:07.88 and won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.81 along with Lauren Horst, Lisa Niethamer, and Ashten O'Brien.

The women's team picked up four MAC Championship-qualifying times, including Birli's 100 fly mark. Niethamer's 50 free time of 26.74 and O'Brien's wins in the 200 IM (2:29.05) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.62) also qualified.

The men's team qualified eight to MAC Championships, including three marks for junior Kevin Carney. Carney won the 100 back (59.59), 1000 free (10:52.28), and 200 IM (2:10.45).

Johnny Shoenberger was a double-qualifier, winning the 200 free in 1:58.15 and the 100 free in 52.52. Jeff Bush's second in the 50 free (24.18) was good enough to qualify, and Dan Wolford finished second to Carney in the 100 back (1:05.62) to also qualify.

LVC will head to Albright College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
