CHESTER, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team simply couldn't find its offensive touch Wednesday, dropping a 2-1 Commonwealth Conference match at Widener University.
The Dutchmen (9-7-1, 1-3 CC) can still qualify for the Commonwealth playoffs, but they will have to beat Lycoming on Saturday and have Albright drop one of its two remaining games against either Elizabethtown on Thursday or Widener (13-4-1, 2-2 CC) on Saturday.
LVC fell behind early when Kim Sharpless collected a loose ball in front of goal and took aim from 15 yards out, finding the inside of the left post.
The Dutchmen found themselves in a 2-0 hole when Sam Baer struck on the half hour with a pair of assists from Caryinna Yenchak and Sharpless. LVC did not manage a shot in the first half.
Thinks brightened for the Dutchmen three minutes into the second half, however. LVC drew a free kick in a dangerous spot, and once again it was Emily Bainbridge who blasted a goal from 20 yards off the set piece.
Unfortunately for the Dutchmen, they would manage just one more shot and could not level the game. Widener held a 9-2 advantage on goals and a wide 12-1 margin on corners.
Junior Erika Ely made a pair of saves for the Dutchmen. Alee Gunter stopped one for the Pride.
LVC now faces a must-win conference game at home with Lycoming College on Saturday.
