Kody Phillips was named the MAC Freedom Baseball Player of the Week after he led the Dutchmen to a conference-opening sweep of King's with a .750 batting average, a 1.083 slugging percentage, and a .733 on-base percentage. The sophomore had nine hits, four of which were doubles, seven runs scored, and nine runs batted in during the three-game series. He started the weekend with two hits, including one double in three at-bats with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, three runs scored, and three RBIs as the catcher in a 19-8 game one victory. Phillips knocked in the first run of the game with a double to right-center in a five-run bottom of the first to set the tone for the game. Phillips was even better in game two, with three doubles and four hits in four at-bats as the left fielder. He knocked in four runs and scored four times in a 15-0 victory over the Monarchs. The sophomore finished the weekend with three hits in five at-bats with two RBIs in a thrilling 8-7 comeback win at King's on Sunday. Phillips plated the eventual game-winning run with a single to third base in the top of the eighth inning that gave LVC an 8-6 lead after trailing 6-3 after five.
