READING, Pa. – Brayden Burkhardt scored his first two career goals while
Gavin Rapp and
Ollie Lynch each found the net once, fueling the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 4-1 victory over Albright College on Saturday, Sept. 26, on a rainy night at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.
The Lions (4-3-1) took the first shot of the game 3:53 into the first half, and the Dutchmen (5-2-1) answered with a save by goalkeeper
Isaac Yerger. LVC countered some offensive opportunities, recording four shots with an attempt on target by
Charlie Kramer during the next 12:11. Lebanon Valley later opened the scoring 16:55 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead. The program struck first when Rapp sent a header shot into the left corner of the net for a goal, courtesy of an assist by
Eli Yerger. Albright followed this by putting a shot on goal at the 21:46 mark, and the Flying Dutchmen responded with another save by
Isaac Yerger.
Lebanon Valley kept sending shots toward the net as the opening stanza progressed, as
Ben Ammon, Kramer,
Dom Beddia, and
Ygor Santana each put a shot on goal that was saved over the next 17:39. The Dutchmen then scored again at the 40:24 mark, taking a 2-0 advantage. Shortly after a free kick, Lynch sent a shot into the lower-center portion of the net for a goal. Lebanon Valley went on to take this two-goal lead into halftime.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to create scoring chances when the second half got underway, registering six shots, including attempts on target by
Eli Yerger and
Logan Hicks during the first 16:22 of the stanza. The Lions countered with a shot at the 64:07 mark, which went over the upper-right corner of the net. Lebanon Valley followed this with more offensive opportunities, as
Michael Enyeama sent a shot to the right of the net at the 67:35 mark, and
Eli Colantoni had an attempt saved at the 71:01 mark.
Albright got on the board 75:39 into the game, narrowing its deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Alexis Zurita-Jimenez. The Lions put another shot on target at the 80:05 mark, but
Isaac Yerger delivered a key save for the Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley found the net again at the 82:12 mark, taking a 3-1 lead. The squad went up by two when Burkhardt took a shot that deflected off the goalie and went into the lower-left corner of the net for a goal. The Flying Dutchmen tacked on an insurance point at the 84:02 mark, claiming a 4-1 advantage when Burkhardt sent another goal into the lower-left corner of the net. Ultimately, Lebanon Valley maintained its three-goal lead through the end of the contest and sealed the victory.
