READING, Pa. — Kevin Carotenuto kicked a 21-yard field goal in double overtime to send Alvernia University past Lebanon Valley, 13-10, on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) football action. The Golden Wolves (2-2 overall, 2-1 MAC) have their first back-to-back victories in program history after winning only one game in their last two seasons.
LVC's possession in the second overtime ended with a blocked 35-yard field goal after the Dutchmen failed to pick up a first down.
Alvernia scored on both of its overtime possessions. The Golden Wolves offense took the ball first in the first overtime session, and Sawyer Esbenshade found James Shaeffer in the end zone for a two-yard touchdown pass.
With LVC facing fourth-and-4 on its drive,
Trey Freeman ran five yards on a reverse to earn an extra set of downs.
Osmany Guzman scored on the next play to force the second overtime period.
Fourth Quarter Field Goal Attempts
Alvernia attempted a go-ahead field goal on the final play of regulation, but the kick missed left to force the game into overtime.
Prior to that, LVC had its own chance to take the lead after a 66-yard drive, highlighted by a 46-yard reception by
Ethan Heisey. On fourth-and-2 from the 8-yard line, the Flying Dutchmen lined up for a field goal, which resulted in no kick attempt after a high snap.
Inside the Box
- Guzman finished 10-of-20 for 128 yards. Freeman (5 receptions, 51 yards) and Heisey (3 receptions, 60 yards) were the top targets.
- Guzman also rushed 24 times for 122 yards, with Jayden Stanfield adding 41 yards on seven carries.
- Owen Chernich and Jacob Karkoska led the defense with eight tackles each.
- Calvin Bent added seven tackles, including a sack and another tackle for loss.
- Brandon Choi, Kaies Handy, and J.D. McCallion each added seven tackles.
- Connor Hazel made a 31-yard field goal on LVC's opening drive of the game.
