ANNVILLE, Pa. – Seniors
Mikayla Mitchell and
Abrielle Miller both recorded two points for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team on Senior Day, leading the program to a 2-0 victory over Stevenson University on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Herbert Field. Mitchell scored the game-winning goal for LVC, while Miller tallied a pair of assists.
Lebanon Valley recognized its five seniors before the game, honoring Mitchell, Miller,
Emilee Walborn,
Gabby Cinicola, and
Sophia Floyd.
The Dutchmen (3-3-0) were aggressive offensively from the start of the contest, recording nine shots within the first 14 minutes of the first half. During this stretch,
Kalei Noonan put a shot on goal for LVC, which was saved at the 13:52 mark. The Mustangs (0-5-1) countered with an attempt at the 14:32 mark, but Lebanon Valley answered with a save by goalkeeper
Camryn Porter. The Flying Dutchmen created more scoring chances as the opening stanza progressed, as Miller sent a shot off the crossbar and Noonan had a try go above the net within 14 seconds in the 20th minute.
Stevenson registered another shot on target at the 23:17 mark, which resulted in Porter making a save for LVC. The Dutchmen proceeded to outshoot the opposition 5-1 during the remainder of the first half. During this stretch, Miller,
Jayme Beninda, and
Sarah Gowell each put a shot on goal for Lebanon Valley that was saved. The programs entered halftime in a scoreless tie.
LVC and Stevenson went back and forth at the beginning of the second half, and the Dutchmen had an 8-3 advantage in shots during the first 11:49 of the stanza. Each team put a shot on target during this stretch, as Miller had a try saved at the 46:52 mark and Porter made a save for LVC at the 57:44 mark. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring 66:59 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over the Mustangs. Miller delivered a cross from the right side of the penalty box to Mitchell near the back of the goal box, who sent a shot into the lower-left side of the net for a goal.
The Mustangs later attempted a shot at the 75:32 mark, but LVC's defense came through with a block. Stevenson also logged a shot on goal at the 77:35 mark, and Porter posted a stop for the Flying Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley found the net again at the 83:29 mark, going ahead 2-0. Beninda took a shot from the goal box and sent the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for a goal, courtesy of Miller's second assist. Ultimately, the Dutchmen maintained their lead through the end of the second half to secure the victory.
