EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Megan Ressler scored her team-leading third goal of the season for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 2-1 match to Wilkes University on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Bruggeworth Field.
The Dutchmen (1-3-0) opened the scoring 4:35 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over the Colonels (4-1-0) when Ressler netted a goal. Lebanon Valley followed this with another offensive opportunity, as
Kennedy Dings put a shot on goal that was saved at the 11:55 mark.
Abrielle Miller also contributed to LVC's scoring efforts, sending a try toward the net that was saved at the 18:53 mark. Wilkes countered with a shot attempt at the 20:42 mark, and the Flying Dutchmen responded with a block.
The programs proceeded to battle defensively for over nine minutes, as neither side took a shot during this stretch. The Colonels then registered a shot that went above the net at the 29:57 mark and an attempt that went to the left of the net at the 30:54 mark. The team also put a shot on goal at the 32:52 mark, and Lebanon Valley answered with a save by goalkeeper
Camryn Porter. Wilkes later scored on a goal by Jess Shea at the 35:21 mark, prompting the squads to enter halftime in a 1-1 tie.
The Colonels created some scoring chances early in the second half, sending a shot to the left of the net at the 49:25 mark before an attempt went above the net at the 55:21 mark. The Dutchmen followed this with a shot by
Mikhaela Sartor, which went to the right of the net at the 60:25 mark. Wilkes also attempted more shots at the 66:43 and 74:13 marks, which resulted in key blocks by LVC's defense.
The Colonels logged another shot at the 80:22 mark, which ended up left of the net. This was followed by an offensive opportunity for Lebanon Valley, as
Kalei Noonan took a shot that went to the left of the net at the 84:45 mark. Wilkes later scored on an own goal at the 86:46 mark, taking a 2-1 advantage. Ultimately, this would stand as the final score.
