LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Michael De Falcis finished third in the javelin to earn First Team All-America honors for the Lebanon Valley men's outdoor track and field team at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
De Falcis threw a career-best and school record mark of 70.16 meters (230'2") on his fourth throw of the afternoon to earn his second career All-America honor. He beat his previous best mark of 66.15 meters (217'00") that he threw at the MAC Championships. The graduate student started strong with a toss of 63.38 meters (207'11"). He then recorded a throw of 67.23 meters (220'7") to move into the top three and qualify for the finals. He had a toss of 63.90 meters (209'8") on his third attempt and moved down to fourth heading into the finals. DeFalcis started off finals with his best throw and moved back up to third place. His fifth throw went 68.31 meters (224'1") while his sixth and final toss went 65.29 meters (214'2")
Rowan University junior Damitrius Hester topped the field with a career-best throw of 74.94 meters (245'10") on his sixth and final attempt. Fitchburg State senior Liam Bourassa led for most of the day and finished second with a career-best heave of 73.55 meters (241'3") on his third throw. De Falcis was the only other thrower with a mark over 70 meters in the field.
The graduate student threw a Middle Atlantic Conference record, breaking the previous record of 68.91 meters thrown in 2002 by Susquehanna thrower Matt Deamer. He also improved on his 11th-place finish at last year's Championship after entering the weekend with the sixth-best throw in Division III. It marks the third consecutive year the Dutchmen have had at least one All-American in the javelin. It is the fourth consecutive year LVC has had at least one javelin thrower compete at the NCAA Championships, starting with a 20th-place finish by De Falcis in 2023.
