12 Dutchmen Score in Dominant Win over Delaware Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team scored the first 18 goals of the game in a dominant 23-2 victory over Delaware Valley University on Wednesday afternoon on Arnold Field. 12 different Dutchmen scored at least one goal, and 13 Dutchmen recorded at least one point in the win.
 
LVC (9-3, 1-1 MAC Freedom) scored a quick first two goals as Connor Rowe won the opening faceoff with the ground ball pickup, and less than a minute later, Ethan Keenan found Sean Poole cutting towards the goal for his 22nd goal of the season. Rowe won the next faceoff with another ground ball, and Brayden Brown fired a shot into the back of the crease to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 advantage not even 90 seconds into the game. Rowe continued his dominance on faceoffs with another ground ball, and Ryan Grace had a shot saved, giving the Aggies (1-9, 0-2 MAC Freedom) their first possession of the game. The Dutchmen added two more goals a couple of minutes later, as Grace found Poole in transition for his second goal of the season, and then Hayden Carling assisted Grace on the sophomore's team-leading 33rd goal of the year.
 
The scoring continued for the Dutchmen as Wyatt Shamer connected with Jacob Olson over the middle for the fifth goal of the game with 10:09 left in the quarter. Grace had a shot saved, Rinyak hit the post, and then Poole completed his hat trick with nine minutes on the clock to put LVC up 6-0. Poole had a pair of shots saved before the Aggies were able to put their first shot on goal of the game. Kellen Markley made the save, and after a quick clear, Branden Manderbach scored his second goal of the year. LVC kept the pressure on the DVU defense as Montgomery Sensenig had a shot saved. Olson hit the post and Shamer had a pair of shots saved. LVC pushed the lead to 8-0 after one quarter following Keenan's 19th goal of the year with four seconds left.
 
Ish Bolorin won the first faceoff of the second quarter and had his shot saved after winning the ground ball. Sam Spagnuolo hit the post, Rowan Myers had a shot saved, and Sensenig hit the crossbar with a shot. Spagnuolo also hit the crossbar with just under 11 minutes to play in the half. LVC picked up the ground ball, and Grace found the back of the net for his second goal of the game to make it 9-0. Bolorin picked up the ground ball to win the faceoff, which was followed by back-to-back saves on shots by Carling and Poole. Poole then picked up a ground ball off a failed clear attempt and scored his fourth goal of the game to push the advantage to double digits.
 
The Dutchmen added two goals over the next minute. Just nine seconds after Bolorin won the faceoff with another ground ball, Myers found Grace open near the net for his third goal of the game. Bolorin picked up another ground ball for a faceoff win, and less than a minute later, Brown fired a shot into the goal for his 10th score of the year. Keenan scored his 20th goal of the year with 7:49 to play in the half to push the advantage to 13-0. Jacob Mrose hit the crossbar following another Bolorin ground ball on a faceoff win. Myers scored with 5:13 left in the half, which was followed less than a minute later by Carling scoring his 19th goal of the season off an assist by Rinyak. Olson made it 16-0 with 2:38 remaining with his second goal of the game off a pass from Shamer. Olson had a shot saved with a minute left in the half before Poole put a pair of shots wide.
 
LVC worked the clock in the second half as Myers, Keenan, and Poole put shots wide in the first five minutes. Markley made a pair of saves at the other end to keep the shutout going. Brown opened the scoring with his third goal of the game to make it 17-0 with 9:38 on the clock. Rowe won the faceoff with a ground ball and drove to the goal, where he had his shot saved. Two minutes later, Poole added his fifth goal of the game. Poole hit the crossbar, and Shamer put a shot wide as the Dutchmen made a change in goal. The Aggies cleared the ball and scored their first goal to cut the deficit to 18-1 with 4:42 left in the quarter. LVC responded with a pair of shots by Carling that were saved. Shamer had a shot saved before Brown found Trevor Moore open in the middle of the field for his third goal of the season with 16 seconds left to play. Sensenig picked up the ground ball on the following faceoff to end the period with LVC leading by 18.
 
Delaware Valley scored to begin the fourth quarter as a shot snuck just inside the post. The Dutchmen continued to work the clock, playing with a big lead. Mrose had a shot saved before Bolorin scored his second goal of the year with 10 minutes remaining off a pass from Moore. The scoring continued for the Dutchmen as Mrose scored his first goal of the year two minutes later off an assist by Bolorin. Anthony Asfor had a shot saved as LVC kept firing shots at the net. Shamer pushed the advantage to 20 as he scored with just under five minutes to play in the game. Shamer hit the post two minutes later. Mrose wrapped up the scoring with his second goal of the game. The Dutchmen held the Aggies without a shot for the final 2:33 to close out the win that evened their conference record.
 
Inside the Box
  • Poole led the team with five goals on 10 shots. The senior scored five goals for the second time this year. His fifth goal was the 50th of his career.
  • Brown recorded his first career hat trick with three goals and two assists for five points. He recorded the third multi-goal game of the season.
  • Grace also scored three goals and had two assists for his eighth hat trick. The sophomore leads the team with 35 goals and 52 points this year.
  • Keenan added four points on two goals and two assists. The junior has multi-goal games in three of the last four contests.
  • Shamer had three points on one goal and a season-high two assists. Carling also had three points on one goal and two assists.
  • Olson and Mrose scored two goals each. Olson recorded the first multi-goal game of his career and picked up five ground balls while Mrose scored twice against DVU for the second straight year.
  • Moore, Bolorin, and Myers each had one goal and one assist. Rinyak added an assist while Manderbach scored a goal.
  • Rowe won nine of his 12 faceoff attempts and had five ground balls. Bolorin was a perfect 9-9 on faceoffs with eight ground balls. Christian Valanzola won six of his eight faceoff attempts with five ground balls.
  • LVC equaled a season-high of 23 goals and had 14 assists for a season-high 37 points. They also had a season-high 56 ground balls.
  • The Dutchmen outshot the Aggies 64-23 and had a 56-20 ground ball advantage. LVC was 20-22 on clear attempts, while winning 24 of the 29 faceoffs.

The Dutchmen will head to Hoboken, N.J., on Saturday for their toughest contest of the year as they will face 12th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
