Four Dutchmen Record Points Against Nationally Ranked Ducks

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team had four goal scorers in a tough 24-6 defeat at 12th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, New Jersey.
 
LVC (9-4, 1-2 MAC Freedom) fought valiantly against the Ducks (10-2, 3-0 MAC Freedom), scoring the most goals that Stevens has allowed in three conference games this spring. The Ducks scored the first two goals of the game in the first four minutes. Hayden Carling had a shot saved in between goals. The Dutchmen won their second consecutive faceoff, and Brayden Brown connected with Rowan Myers for a goal to cut the deficit in half with 10:58 on the clock. Stevens responded less than a minute later with a goal. LVC battled as Jacob Olson and Ryan Grace put shots wide before Stevens scored three goals in a span of two minutes to increase the advantage to 6-1. Grace sent a shot wide before the sophomore found Sean Poole cutting towards the goal for a goal. The Ducks countered with a goal at the other end to take a 7-2 lead with two minutes left in the quarter. LVC went on an extra-man opportunity in the final minute, with Grace sending a shot wide and Poole hitting the post.
 
Stevens came out firing to begin the second quarter, taking eight shots in the first five minutes and holding the Dutchmen to just four offensive possessions. Markley made four saves, two shots hit the post, one shot was blocked, and SIT scored on the eighth shot to push the lead to six. Stevens continued the strong play, adding a pair of goals over the next three minutes. Myers and Grace had shots go wide while Dylan Rinyak had a shot saved. Olson had a shot saved before Grace worked his way free for a goal with 6:10 left to cut it to 10-3. The Ducks answered right back with two goals over the next 90 seconds. Stevens tacked on two more goals while holding LVC without a shot over the final five minutes of the half to take a 14-3 lead.
 
The Ducks brought the aggressive play into the second half, scoring in the opening minute of the third quarter. The hosts missed the net on four consecutive shots before taking a possession clock violation. LVC cleared the ball, and Myers fired a shot into the back of the net for a goal. Stevens responded with a pair of goals in the next two minutes. The Ducks controlled possession for most of the quarter, holding LVC without another shot until Grace scored his second goal of the game off a pass from Poole with five minutes on the clock. The Ducks had added three goals to their total to take a 20-5 advantage. They tacked on another three more goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to increase the lead to 23-5.
 
Stevens continued its strong defensive play into the fourth quarter, holding the Dutchmen to four total shots in the period. The Ducks scored their final goal of the game with 10:47 left in the game. They took three possession clock violations before Wyatt Shamer had a shot saved, and Brown scored for the Dutchmen. Brown put a shot high, and Olson had a shot saved over the final three minutes.
 
Inside the Box
  • Grace led the Dutchmen with three points on two goals and one assist. The sophomore has scored a team-leading 37 goals this year and has recorded multi-goal games in the past five games.
  • Myers scored two goals on three shots. The junior recorded his sixth multi-goal game of the year.
  • Poole had two points on one goal and one assist with one ground ball. He has scored at least one goal in the past six games and has recorded a point in the last 12 games.
  • Brown finished with a goal and an assist on two shots. The first-year has recorded at least one point in all 10 games he has played and recorded his third consecutive multi-point game.
  • Jacob LaRue led the team with three ground balls. Kellen Markley also had three ground balls and 17 saves.
  • Connor Rowe won five faceoffs while Ish Bolorin won three.
Up Next
LVC will be back on Arnold Field this Wednesday, April 15, with a big home game against FDU-Florham. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the Devils.
