Dutchmen Baseball Sets Program Record for Steals in Win Over Stevenson

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball team set a single-game program record with nine stolen bases, helping fuel the club's 9-5 victory over Stevenson University on Tuesday, April 7, at McGill Field.

Owen Berry also stole three bases and scored twice, and Kenny Palmieri stole a base and knocked in two runs. Spencer Butz was also a key contributor to the victory, tying a game-high two hits, driving in a game-high three runs, and scoring two runs.

Starting pitcher Jaden Click began the game with a scoreless top of the first inning for the Dutchmen (10-16), notching the third out with a fielder's choice. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Mustangs (10-12). Daniel Palmieri got things started with a single down the right-field line before stealing second base and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Kody Phillips then came through with a sacrifice fly to center field, knocking in Daniel Palmieri. Click also posted a zero for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the second, registering the final out with a flyout to left fielder Colby Bealing to strand runners on first and second base.

Click pitched a 1-2-3 frame for LVC in the top of the third inning, logging a groundout to second baseman Dylan Mennillo, a flyout to right fielder Kenny Palmieri, and a flyout to Bealing in left-center field. Stevenson then got on the board in the top of the fourth, taking a 3-1 advantage on an RBI double, an error, and a play where obstruction was called. Click later blanked the opposition in the top of the fifth inning, getting out of the frame with a groundout to Daniel Palmieri at third base.

The Dutchmen crossed the plate four times in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 5-3 lead. Berry started the rally with a double to left-center field before a single to third base by Daniel Palmieri put runners on the corners. Daniel Palmieri then stole second base, and a throwing error by the catcher allowed Berry to score. Butz then hit an RBI triple to right-center field, driving in Daniel Palmieri. Later in the frame, Kenny Palmieri hit a two-run double to left-center, plating Butz and Tyler Satterfield

Click kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, concluding the frame with a strikeout swinging to leave a runner at third base. Lebanon Valley followed this with four more runs in the bottom half of the sixth, extending its lead to 9-3. The program had runners on the corners with one out, and an error by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt allowed Bealing to score from third. Later in the inning, Butz hit a two-run double to right-center field to drive in Berry and Daniel Palmieri. Butz also scored on a wild pitch.

Stevenson added two runs in the top of the seventh inning, narrowing the score to 9-5 on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
